Kim Restivo, MA, LPC

I have worked with children and families for over 17 years.  I began my career with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lynchburg College in Special Education.  After teaching elementary school special education for 5 years, I decided that my passion was working with my students on social/emotional learning.  I enrolled in Lesley College and graduated in 2000 with a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.  During my master’s program I specialized in Expressive Arts Therapies, Child and Adolescent Counseling and Play Therapy.

I became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2002 and have practiced as an adolescent day treatment counselor, a school-based counselor for K-12th grades, an outpatient therapist for children, families and adults and a program director for a 4 county mental health program in North Carolina.

In 2006, I founded my private practice in Wilmington, NC. My practice is built on empathy, warmth, playfulness and positivity.  I believe in developing a safe therapeutic space where my clients can experience their feelings, improve their communication skills, develop social confidence and learn tools to create the life they desire.

Specializations:

I specialize in assisting children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing anxiety. I use cognitive behavioral therapy as the main therapeutic modality.

I am a founding member and on the Board of Directors for Coastal Collaborative Colleagues, a local non-profit that has been instrumental in pioneering Collaborative Divorce services in Southeastern, NC.  I serve as a Child Specialist on Collaborative Divorce teams, advocating for the children in families experiencing divorce and assisting parents with co-parenting.  I am a member of the International Association of Collaborative Professionals.

I have received specialized training in behavioral sleep counseling.  I have attended trainings in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in Adults and in Pediatric Behavioral Sleep Medicine.  I am a member of the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine.
